So for a high proportion of men buying lingerie for their girlfriend can present quite a conundrum.  On one hand its the excitement, as I have heard it said before the gitft that doesn’t stop giving (until it breaks), whilst on the other hand its quite daunting.

Two golden rules when buying underwear – remember who it is for and what the occassion is.

Who is it for?

So men, you can go for the most “sexy” or provocative number as long as you buy it thinking it is for your pleasure and you are convinced your partner will go for it.  Most women generally won’t share your taste in underwear, even what is sexy.  So make sure you have a true understanding of what your partner wants.

What’s the occassion?

As tempting as a PVC number from Ann Summers might sound on your girlfriend (and she may be up for it in the evening), sitting there for dinner in a crowded restaurant with that under her clothes is probably not the best experience.

Also, consider why you are buying it.  A real saucy number for Agent Provacatuer may not be the nicest Birthday present that she unwraps in front of her parents.  Maybe something a bit more classy and (her type of) sexy by Elle MacPherson from Figleaves.

Bizarre as it sounds, buying lingerie can be an extremely expensive business.  Even sites such as Figleaves show budget ranges as being Under £30.  You can easily pay over £100 for a two piece set.  However there are some true budget options around that still look and more importantly for your girl feel the part.  Supermarkets often have ranges designed for them, take Asda, they had Katie Price’s range of underwear.  Say what you like about the girl (and most people do) she did front a decent range for George and all at reasonable prices that won’t make you crawl with pain.  And your girlfriend doesn’t have to have the body of Jordan to pull it off.

2. Brangelina aka Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie – Rumours abound that the two are to split.  However, whilst they remain together the eyes of the world are still on them.  Both mega-stars in their own right, its only the sheer weight of the Price publicity machine that stops them being number one.

3. Jay Z and Beyonce – The stars of modern urban music.  Few had expected these two to be together, however, they are now one of the most talked about couples in the world.  However, they were nearly in the unlikely list.

4. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes – one of the leaders of the church of scientology, pint sized Tom Cruise moves from one Hollywood leading lady to another.

5. Posh and Becks aka Victoria Beckham and David Beckham – despite how sickening their publicity grabbing is.  How nauseating Posh’s pout has become.  Even though they live miles apart (Becks in Milan and Posh in LA) and after at least one affair with Rebecca Loos – they are still one of the most talked about couples

6. Cheryl Cole and Ashley Cole – more than just a WAG.  Cheryl has helped take the heat of the often controversial Ashley.  Girls Aloud member, solo singer, charity worker and X Factor judge has become a national treasure.  Ashley?  Well he is still a slightly ropey England full-back

Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis – these two have had a couple of on-off times during their relationship.  But they have quietly got on with it and are perhaps one of the most credible of all the celebrity couples.  They would be higher up if it wasn’t for their desire to keep out of the limelight (all credit to them for that though)
