So for a high proportion of men buying lingerie for their girlfriend can present quite a conundrum.  On one hand its the excitement, as I have heard it said before the gitft that doesn’t stop giving (until it breaks), whilst on the other hand its quite daunting.

Two golden rules when buying underwear – remember who it is for and what the occassion is.

Who is it for?

So men, you can go for the most “sexy” or provocative number as long as you buy it thinking it is for your pleasure and you are convinced your partner will go for it.  Most women generally won’t share your taste in underwear, even what is sexy.  So make sure you have a true understanding of what your partner wants.

What’s the occassion?

As tempting as a PVC number from Ann Summers might sound on your girlfriend (and she may be up for it in the evening), sitting there for dinner in a crowded restaurant with that under her clothes is probably not the best experience.

Also, consider why you are buying it.  A real saucy number for Agent Provacatuer may not be the nicest Birthday present that she unwraps in front of her parents.  Maybe something a bit more classy and (her type of) sexy by Elle MacPherson from Figleaves.

Bizarre as it sounds, buying lingerie can be an extremely expensive business.  Even sites such as Figleaves show budget ranges as being Under £30.  You can easily pay over £100 for a two piece set.  However there are some true budget options around that still look and more importantly for your girl feel the part.  Supermarkets often have ranges designed for them, take Asda, they had Katie Price’s range of underwear.  Say what you like about the girl (and most people do) she did front a decent range for George and all at reasonable prices that won’t make you crawl with pain.  And your girlfriend doesn’t have to have the body of Jordan to pull it off.

4. Peter Crouch and Abbey Clancy – now being a Spurs fan it pains me to put beanpole Peter on the list.  But what is going on?  What next Mr Bean and Naomi Campbell?

3. Jay Z and Beyonce – The stars of modern urban music.  Few had expected these two to be together, however, they are now one of the most talked about couples in the world.  However, they were nearly in the unlikely list.

4. Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes – one of the leaders of the church of scientology, pint sized Tom Cruise moves from one Hollywood leading lady to another.
